Documents we apostille most often for Germany
- Florida birth and marriage certificates (certified copy first)
- Powers of attorney (Vollmacht, Generalvollmacht) for property, vehicles, inheritance (Erbschaftsangelegenheiten), and legal matters in Germany
- Diplomas and school records for university admission
- Corporate documents for the Handelsregister and Grundbuchamt, and powers of attorney for companies
- Sworn statements and affidavits
The apostille is a certificate issued by the Florida Department of State in Tallahassee. Germany accepts it directly because both countries are parties to the Hague Convention. No additional step at a German embassy or consulate.

Questions about the apostille for Germany
Can I do everything from Germany, without traveling?+
Yes. The notarization happens by video call and I handle the apostille in Tallahassee. You only send the document and receive it back with tracked shipping.
Does Germany require a translation of the apostilled document?+
Often, yes. German offices frequently ask for a certified translation by a sworn translator (beeidigter Übersetzer) registered in Germany. A standard certified translation is usually not enough. We guide you on what to request before you book.
My background check is from the FBI, not Florida. Does that work?+
No. Federal documents such as an FBI background check are apostilled by the US Department of State in Washington, not by Florida. Message me and I will point you to the right path.
Does Germany accept a Florida apostille directly?+
Yes. Germany is a long-standing party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, so the Florida Department of State apostille is accepted directly, with no consular legalization. If the document is signed, the notarization is done online under Chapter 117 of the Florida Statutes before the apostille step. German authorities often also want a sworn translation, which is a separate step done in Germany.
